In ancient times, iron oxides were mixed with clays to obtain black or red figure pottery. The temperature of the oven is an important element. The Etruscans became popular in Italy by controlling not only the temperature but also the oven atmosphere.
Today Ghisanativa rewrites that tradition.
Here is a beating heart for every Ghisanativa cooking product.
Designed to be perfectly functional and inspired by the culture of the people of the Mediterranean.
Each Ghisanativa pot, grill pan or hob is studied in detail and wisely designed in compliance with the philosophy of the brand and the production technology.
Every small imperfection on its surface is an indication of the unique handcraft of the piece.
In a smelting furnace at over 1,500°C, iron blocks are melted with carbon and silicon. The liquid cast iron flows into sand and clay matrices. Each shape of the clay matrices is created specifically for each individual piece and destroyed after each pot has taken shape.
Each pot is extracted from the clay and cooled, and then it is thoroughly cleaned and finished with care and by hand.
Each Ghisanativa cooking tool is heated to over 900°C in a special controlled atmospheric oven to form the natural anti-rust; magnetite on the surface.
It is a delicate and long process for a solid layer of magnetite blooms on the iron to protect the cast iron from rust.
We devote the utmost care to craftsmanship like our ancestors 2,000 years ago.
This is a technique adopted by the Roman legionaries since the fourth century BC to make iron weapons more resistant and prevent oxidation.
On the solid layer of magnetite, olive oil is manually spread with a brush with vegetable bristles to deeply nourish the metal. The oil then polymerizes in the oven at 400°C.
The result is a naturally black, hard and compact surface that prevents food from adhering without resorting to synthetic enamels or paints such as PFOA, PFTE and PFAS.
